Both Rumbling Bald Resort and The Esmeralda Inn offer oodles of amenities and packages that can include options like lake activities and Chimney Rock State Park access, so be sure to check their websites for details before booking. Prefer a picturesque getaway full of decadence and historic aplomb? The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa or The Firehouse Inn offer historically enchanting surroundings amid small town charm that’s guaranteed to captivate even the most seasoned of travelers.

Prefer to get a bit more in touch with nature? Amenity-full campgrounds like Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park and Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground have it all, including seasonal specials and onsite activities. Looking for a bit more space to call your own? Rent a mountainside or lakeside cabin for an idyllic getaway with all the comforts of home. There’s no shortage of options for every travel style.

Activities and Events

Chimney Rock State Park’s Easter Sunrise Service may be being held as a virtual event again this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of all the spring beauty the park has to offer -- plus, what better way to stream the service than from a mountainside porch or balcony with an equally breathtaking sunrise view! The park is open for hikers daily and offers additional activity options like “Animal Encounters”, photography classes, and their “Naturalist Niche” series. Be sure to check the Chimney Rock State Park website for daily updated information.

Looking to immerse yourself in a leisurely walk that encompasses all of the beauty of spring? The Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is a whimsical path that is truly a journey for the senses. They even offer monthly gardening classes and mobile phone audio tours for your walk along the trail, and be sure to keep an eye out for this year’s spring feature “Bunnies on the Bridge”.

Speaking of bunnies, Rumbling Bald Resort will hold its Easter Family Event on Saturday, April 3rd this year. The event is open to members and guests of the resort and features Easter egg hunts, themed mini-golf, arts and crafts, and pictures with the Bunny himself. Call or check their website events page for more information.

An incredible outing doesn’t just have to be about planned festivities. There’s no limit to the hiking trails, cycling paths, and equestrian adventures; or even perfect picnic spots, water activities, and local artisan merchants that are a shop-a-holic’s dream. Your most difficult choice will be what to do next!

Culinary Delights

If Easter isn’t truly Easter without Sunday Brunch, The Esmeralda, Rumbling Bald, and The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa all have sumptuous brunch options guaranteed to make your Easter Sunday a feast to remember. Be sure to call or check their websites in advance for reservations and details.

Dining options with a spectacular view are in no short supply. Medina’s Village Bistro in Chimney Rock, Lake House Restaurant Bar and Grill in Lake Lure, and the Old Rock Cafe at the entrance to Chimney Rock State Park are all incredible favorites with equally incredible views. Wine lovers will appreciate the views with a side of live music offered at Burntshirt Vineyards Tasting Room and Bistro, and craft beer connoisseurs are sure to thrill in the unique local brew options offered at Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery.

Looking for local fare with a side of rustic charm? Fagans Farm in Ellenboro, The Garden Cafe at Gardenwoods in Rutherfordton, and Moe’s Original BBQ in Forest City all offer hearty local food options with plenty of southern hospitality. And, since no Easter holiday would be complete without a few decadent sweets, don’t miss stopping by The Whistle Stop Bakery and Farm Store in Bostic, The Pie Safe Baking Company in Forest City, or Granny B’s Bakery & Sub Shoppe in Spindale for a variety of locally baked goodies that are sure to sweeten your fun.
