You know the old adage “an apple a day keeps the doctor away?” The apple doesn’t always have to be fresh off the tree. Fall is the perfect time to visit an orchard or enjoy an apple pastry from a local restaurant or bakery. Here are some of our favorite apple treats in Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Foothills:

  1. Davis Donuts in Forest City always has a sweet treat. We recommend the apple fritters. They are in season and people rave about them.
  2. Popcorn Plus has a Caramel Apple Cake flavor that reminds us of country fairs and will keep your taste buds begging for more. Check them out in downtown Forest City.
  3. For the adults, Copper Penny Grill serves a divine Appletini. Drink this alongside a Copper Penny Signature Burger, a favorite entrée among the locals.
  4. Washburn’s General Store keeps apple butter in stock- it tastes exactly like your grandmother’s apple butter. Drop in this old-time general store and grab a jar today.
  5. Whistle Stop Bakery has a decadent apple pie that pairs perfectly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Located in Bostic, this bakery is always serving great sweet treats.
  6. If you’re in Rutherfordton, stop into Bee Happy Eats and Sweets and try their specialty cupcake of the day or mini apple pie.
  7. Don's Italian Restaurant has the perfect combination of pizza and apple with their cinnamon-apple dessert pizza. It’s always hot and fresh so don’t miss out on this delicacy.
  8. Spin City Corner Café also features an apple pie on their dessert menu. We suggest the “Grown Up Grilled Cheese” before dessert to keep your appetite satisfied.
  9. Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery in Chimney Rock Village has two hard ciders on tap this season from Urban Orchard. One is a little sweet, the other a little spicy.
  10. If you have a sweet tooth from the moment you wake up, head over to Medina’s Village Bistro in Chimney Rock, for fresh off-the-grill pancakes with apple topping.
  11. Take in a beautiful view as you enjoy a pork tenderloin with an apple demi-glace and apple cinnamon bread pudding at Tree Tops at the Lodge on Lake Lure.
  12. Looking to pick up some apples to take home?  Visit one of our local farm stands or the Rutherford County Farmer's Market to grab a bag to go. We are also just a short drive from popular orchards giving you a bushel's worth of apple eating options!
