Celebration of Resilience

Celebration of resilience

Because Together, We Rise

One year ago, Hurricane Helene swept through Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Village, and the greater Hickory Nut Gorge area—upending lives and livelihoods in a matter of hours. What could have been the end of something beautiful instead became the beginning of something extraordinary.

Neighbors became first responders. Local businesses became anchors. And slowly, together, we began to rebuild.

Now, one year later, we invite you to join us for a day of remembrance, gratitude, and hope—a Celebration of Resilience that honors the journey we’ve taken and the future we are creating together.

Schedule of Events

11:00 AM – Commemorative Ceremony

Morse Park in Lake Lure
An inspiring reflection on the strength and perseverance of our people and places.

1:00 PM – Symbolic Ribbon Cutting

Walkway in front of Lake Lure Beach
Honoring the towns, businesses, and residents of the Hickory Nut Gorge.

2:00 PM – Spokes of Hope Recognition & Vision for Chimney Rock Village

Main Street, Chimney Rock Village

Mayor Peter O’Leary will recognize Spokes of Hope for their vital role in helping Chimney Rock Village and its businesses recover after Hurricane Helene. He will also unveil renderings of the new Chimney Rock Village Master Plan, offering a glimpse into the town’s vision for revitalization and future growth.

4:00 PM – Guided Resilience Hike: Chimney Rock Boulders Trail

Strenuous, 1-mile round trip
Meet at 3:45 PM at the trailhead kiosk (top of the Chimney Rock Village parking lot). This meaningful hike culminates in a powerful view over some of the most affected areas, providing space for reflection and hope.
