Location - Forest City's Park Square Trail Access Point

Join us for the first annual Thermal Belt Rail Trail Amazing Race! Teams will race from station to station by bicycle or on foot seeking out their next clue in a game of wits, local history knowledge and team-building all while getting a good workout! Awards will follow at Forest City Pavilion On Park Square (POPS).

ROC River Clean-Up

Location - Gray's Rd River Access of the Broad River

Join us for a special 'Year of the Trail' River Cleanup where we will be cleaning up section 5 of the Broad River.  By participating, you are helping us to keep our rivers clean, healthy, and fun for outdoor activities as well as helping us to promote environmental awareness.

National Public Lands Day Sunset Hike

Location - Chimney Rock State Park

To honor and celebrate the rich history of environmental stewardship at Chimney Rock State Park, join us for an after hours sunset hike to the top of the Chimney with one of the original stewards of the park. Along the way, we will place the Hickory Nut Gorge State Trail marker on this newly designated trail.

National Public Lands Day Campfire Celebration

Location - Chimney Rock Brewing Company

Join us in a toast at Chimney Rock Brewing Company to commemorate the newly designated Hickory Nut Gorge State Trail and honor our volunteers.  After the toast stick around for a campfire with s’mores and ghost stories!

15th Annual Flock to the Rock

Location - Chimney Rock State Park

Break out the binoculars and get ready for our annual feathered frenzy. This event was designed so birders of all skill sets can enjoy one of the country’s fastest growing hobbies – bird watching! Bring the whole family for live raptor programs, birding activities, intro to birding hikes, and the annual hawk watch from the Chimney.

Upper Boulders Trail Ribbon Cutting

Location - Buffalo Creek Park Parking Area, Lake Lure, NC

Join the Town of Lake Lure and the Carolina Climbers Coalition for the grand opening of the Upper Boulders Trail in Buffalo Creek Park. This new 2 mile trail provides access to expanded bouldering and climbing opportunities in the park and features a creek with cascades and a summit view.  Carolina Climbers Coalition will lead ground tours of the climbing routes and boulder problems throughout the hike.
