Guests are first welcomed into a courtyard filled with native plants, and pergolas where musicians can host performances or visitors can seek reprieve from the summer sun. Inside guest will find a mock replica of the famous stair case in the film Dirty Dancing where they can pose for a great photo opportunity. Also inside of the Welcome Center guest can actually see a foundation rock from the 1987 Dirty Dancing Film Site! The walls are lined with brochures offering guest information on current events, outdoor activities, trail maps, area maps and much more! A film history display showcases info on Dirty Dancing, filmed in Lake Lure, and Last of the Mohicans, filmed in Chimney Rock, as well as other films. The “History Room” includes a wall-sized timeline of local heritage that visitors can experience along with historic maps, area stories and folklore and local culture.
