Several areas of Lake Lure were used in the filming of the 1987 classic film Dirty Dancing! While here filming many of the cast and production team lodged at the beautiful 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa, where you can book the exact same rooms that Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey stayed in while filming. The actual resort you see in the movie was filmed in Virginia. The majority of the film was done here in Lake Lure at a former Boy's Scout Camp. The gymnasium of the camp happens to be the filming location of the talent show and the final dance scene in the movie. The white bridge and stone steps, are now on private property, are located in firefly cove, located in Lake Lure NC. The cabins for Johnny and all the staff members were filmed at the old camps counselor's cabins. Most of the camps buildings burned down several years ago, with Johnny's Cabin collapsing a few years after that. The golfing scenes where filmed at Rumbling Bald Resort, the 16th hole on Bald Mountain Golf Course. The main lobby of the Esmeralda Inn and Restaurant is proud to host the original dance floor upon which Johnny and Baby shared their final dance and has been repurposed into a rustic foyer. While in Lake Lure be sure to stop in at the Rutherford County Welcome Center where you can view an original film cell, photos from the filming locations as well as a great mock replica of the staircase Baby practices her dance moves on, be sure to get a photo of yourself! The annual Dirty Dancing Festival has taken over the beautiful town of Lake Lure, NC where much of the classic film "Dirty Dancing" was originally filmed.
