Question: What do you do with a beautiful 1925 bridge when it isn’t needed as a bridge anymore?
Answer: Turn it into a community flower garden and pedestrian walkway.

With more than 700 species of plants and flowers, the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is only the second of its kind in the country. (Shelburne Falls, MA was the first.)

Retired in 2009 and opened to the public in 2012, a team of volunteers transformed this historic bridge into a destination that pays homage to Western North Carolina culture and natural beauty.

Items repurposed and reshaped into garden art are interspersed among 12 themed garden areas, such as the Whimsical Garden, the Fragrant Garden, the Tropical Area and NC Wildflower of the Year plantings. No matter the season, you’ll find something beautiful to enjoy.
